Copy the brief before writing narration

Fill in the fields below with the report owner. If an answer is unknown, leave it open rather than inventing an explanation. The point is to make the decision path reviewable.

Data report video brief

• Audience: Who needs this explanation, and what decision will it support?
• Source of record: Which report, workbook, or dashboard export is current?
• Question: What single question should the video answer?
• Evidence: Which table, chart, or source section answers that question?
• Comparison: What is the period, unit, baseline, or control?
• Interpretation: What may the audience conclude, and what may it not conclude?
• Uncertainty: Which assumption, missing data, or limitation should stay visible?
• Action: What should happen after the viewer understands the result?
• Review: Who checks figures, labels, and wording before the video is shared?

Turn the brief into three visual beats

1. Context: Name the question, period, and unit before a number appears.
2. Evidence: Show one comparison or pattern with the baseline visible.
3. Decision: State the next action and where the full report remains available.

A boundary worth keeping

Do not turn a report into a claim it does not make. A video can clarify what a source shows; it should not hide missing values, erase conditions, or present a forecast as a completed outcome.
