Choose the output around the viewer’s job
Use PowerPoint's native export when slide sequence, supported animations, timings, and recorded narration are the intended presentation. Use a generated explainer when the deck's concepts need a new narrated sequence. Use a screen recording when the visible interaction or presenter-led walkthrough is the evidence.
| If the viewer needs… | Prefer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The original presentation as a video file | Native PowerPoint export | It uses the deck's supported timings, animations, and recorded narration; check feature support in your PowerPoint version. |
| A reusable explanation of a concept, plan, or process | PPT to explainer video | The story can be reorganised around the viewer question rather than the slide order. |
| A record of a live workshop or presenter demonstration | Screen recording | It preserves the real presenter, interface, and in-the-moment context. |
| A product setup or changing interface walkthrough | Screen recording plus maintained help content | The interface itself is the evidence and can change quickly. |
| A training deck that new people should revisit | PPT to training video | The explanation can make the important choices and transitions visible. |
Copy this PPT-to-video brief
- Audience and moment of use: ______________________________
- One question the viewer should be able to answer: ______________________________
- Slides or source sections that provide the evidence: ______________________________
- Relationship, comparison, or sequence the visual must show: ______________________________
- Numbers, names, dates, or wording that must stay tied to the source: ______________________________
- Where the viewer should find the maintained detail: ______________________________
Do not use the slide order as the storyboard
Combine slides that answer the same question. Split a dense slide when it contains more than one relationship. The useful boundary is not “one slide equals one scene”; it is “one scene makes one idea visible before the narration moves on.”
Three paths for the same six-slide lesson
The urban heat course case includes the original six-slide PPTX and the generated 2:17 explanation. Slides 1–2 introduce the energy model, slide 3 compares cooling profiles, slide 4 names street-level conditions, and slides 5–6 lead to a local decision and teach-back.
| Path | Intended output for this deck | What needs checking | When the source changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native PowerPoint export | A video of the six-slide presentation, using supported timings and any recorded narration | Playback, animation support, slide timing, chart legibility, and whether narration was actually recorded | Edit the PPTX and export a new video; check the whole result |
| Screen recording | A recording of a presenter walking through the six slides and any live explanation | Cursor movement, audio, unintended on-screen content, and readable chart labels | Re-record or edit the affected passage and check continuity |
| KPainter explainer | The published 2:17 generated lesson, organised around the source concepts | Match each claim to a slide, distinguish illustrative values from evidence, and review narration and visuals | Request a revision with the changed source context; the system plans the affected scope and credits |
Only the KPainter video is supplied here. We have not produced a matched native-export or screen-recording benchmark from this deck, so this table does not rank rendering time, editing cost, fidelity, or learning outcomes. The native-export description follows Microsoft's video-export documentation; available features depend on the PowerPoint version and platform.
At 0:26–0:56, compare the video with slide 3. Its illustrative cooling chart does not specify a temperature unit, so do not relabel its values as °C. At 1:22–2:17, compare the intervention discussion and teach-back with slides 5–6. The deck requires local evidence and trade-off checks; it does not report measured cooling from a real intervention.
Source text was rechecked September 7, 2026; the case page contains the September 6 source-to-video review. This is a fictional course example, not a classroom study. Cite the case or this decision guide; it does not grant a licence to redistribute the source assets. When the deck is ready, start from your PPT or PowerPoint file.
